performance calculations for the Kuznetsov NK-86 aircraft engine

Kuznetsov NK-86 under the wing of a Ilyushin Il-86 wide body airliner

Kuznetsov NK-86 turbofan engine of 127.5 [KN] (28663 [lbf]) thrust

introduction : 1979 country : USSR importance : **

applications : Ilyushin Il-86

max. rating (take-off) : 127.5 [KN] (28663 [lbf], 13001 [kgf])

weight engine(s) dry : 2540.0 [kg] = 50.20 [N/kg]

General information :

Low by-pass turbofan engine. Upgraded version of the NK-8. Due to lack of

resources and not enough time for the strict dead-line for the Il-86 program,

Kuznetsov decided not to develop a total new turbofan engine but choose for a NK-8

upgrade program. This saved time but fuel consumption and power output fell short

compared with modern new turbofan designs.

by-pass ratio : 1.15 : 1

noise category : MCC3 (marginally complaint chapter 3) TO-noise level : 105.7
